With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we’re dedicating today to some of our own favorite recipes & sharing some inspirations we have yet to try {but sure do look yummy – so if you try them, please let us know what you think!}.

Reinventing the Thanksgiving Kids’ Table

Happy Wednesday! You’re officially half way through the work week!

Spicing up those creative minds this morning with this super cute & thrifty idea {we know we’re a day early for Thrifty Thursday, but this just couldn’t wait!} – perfect for your kids’ table{s} at your Thanksgiving feast {Which, PS – can you believe it’s already next week?!}

This kid-friendly table covering is creative & practical yet trendy & chic!

What you need:

1. A dining table to be designated as the “kid’s table”

2. Kraft Paper {You can find kraft paper via for $8.21 per 65-foot roll}.

3. Crayons or Washable Markers {display in a cute bucket or have a mini box at each place-setting}.

4. DIY Name Card Displays. BHW idea we love: Create a cute name card to attach to each individual box of crayons or markers & leave that on top of each plate to mark each child’s seat. They’ll feel special with their own box of crayons & even more special that their name marks their seat! {If you like the stamp name settings as seen in the photo, you can visit to purchase card stock {$11.06} & alphabet stamps {$22.17}.

Spooktacular Treats & Eats

Cook up some fun, festive spooky treats & eats this fall season!

We’ve collected our favorite spooky & creative recipes to get you ready for your next Halloween party. These treats are sure to be a show stopper, and are certainly monster approved! What’s more fun than food that looks like goblins & ghouls?!

Let’s start with the MONSTER MEAT..guess what it is?! Red Velvet Rice Crispy Treats! Originally featured on Lovin’ From the Oven, these are to perfect for your Halloween bash! How to create your perfect Monster Meat:


  • 1 (10.5 oz) bag of mini marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 – 3/4 cup red velvet cake mix
  • 6 cups rice crispies cereal
  • You could top with gummy worms or something spooky!


  1. Melt butter and mini marshmallows over low heat. When the marshmallows are completely melted, mix in the vanilla and red velvet cake mix.
  2. Remove from heat and carefully stir in the rice crispies until evenly coated.
  3. Pour the batter into a lined or greased 13″x9″ pan and press down.
  4. Wait until cooled & cut to serve.


MONSTER DENTURES! Who doesn’t love apples, peanut butter, and marshmallows?! YUM! We found this cute picture on Pinterest & named this treat Monster Dentures! What you’ll need & how to create {recipe thanks to Allergy Free Test Kitchen}:


  • Red apples
  • Sunflower seed butter or peanut butter
  • Mini marshmallows


  1. Cut apple slices into flat wedges.
  2. Dip in lemon juice if making ahead of time.
  3. Spread the butter of your choice on the bottom wedge.
  4. Stand mini marshmallows upright on bottom wedge.
  5. Spread the butter of your choice on the bottom side of top wedge.
  6. Place top wedge on top of the marshmallows.


For picture #3, SPOOKY EYEBALLS, you’re sure to make eyes pop with these cute & spooky eyeballs. We found a cookie recipe on Forkable, but can’t help but think how much time & effort you’d save by turning these into cake pops! And they’d look so cute on little sticks {try black & white striped straws – eek! How cute would that be?!} You can make these in various ways, but we found this “How to make the BEST cake pops” recipe via Divas Can Cook we just couldn’t wait to share…

  • Chocolate Cake, prepared (I used 1/2 of a 9×13 devils food box cake)
  • Chocolate Frosting (amount depends on moistness of cake. I used two big spoonfuls. See video)
  • 2 boxes Premium white chocolate ( I used Baker’s brand)
  • cake pop sticks
  • sprinkles
  1. Add cake to a large bowl.
  2. Crumble until it resembles fine crumbs
  3. Add in frosting a little bit at a time until cake is moist and can hold a ball shape, yet still slightly crumbly.
  4. Use your hands to incorporate the frosting into the cake crumbs.
  5. Use a mini ice cream scoop and scoop out two balls of cake mixture.
  6. Roll the mixture into a tight ball and place on a plate.
  7. Repeat until all the cake mixture has been rolled into balls.
  8. Melt 2-4 ounces of white chocolate in the microwave.
  9. Dip the tip of the cake pop sticks into the white chocolate and insert into the cake balls about half-way.
  10. Freeze for about 20 minutes.
  11. Meanwhile prepare all of your decorating supplies.
  12. Melt the remaining chocolate in a large cup. Make sure you have enough chocolate to completely submerge the cake ball.
  13. Remove cake balls from freezer.
  14. Dip cake balls carefully into the chocolate until covered.
  15. Let the excess chocolate drip off. Swirl and tap gently if needed.
  16. Add the sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet. It will harden quickly.
  17. Stick the decorated cake pop into a styrofoam block to finish setting.
  18. Place into the freezer to speed up setting time.
  19. Cover with a clear treat bag & ribbon for gift giving, if desired.
  20. Store in a single layer, in an airtight container.
  21. Enjoy!

Straying out of the dessert category, we’re now onto the irresistible PIGS-IN-A-TOMB, as we’ve named them. How cute is this play on pigs-in-a-blanket?! Quick, inexpensive, and totally kid friendly yet mummy approved! Thanks to Sweeties Views & Reviews, we have this great recipe to share:


  • 4 Rhodes® Frozen Dinner Rolls (from a 3-pound package), thawed but still cold
  • 4 hot dogs
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
2. Cut dinner roll dough in half. Roll each half into a 22- to 24-inch rope. Wrap one rope around hot dog from bottom up, 4-1/2 inches (see photo).
3. Cut a 1-1/2-inch piece off the second rope and set small piece aside. Wrap the second rope around the hot dog from the bottom up, 4-1/2 inches, going the opposite way. Then wrap the 1-1/2-inch piece around the top of the hot dog. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs and dinner roll dough.
4. Place hot dogs on the baking sheet and bake 15 to 18 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove from the oven, cool slightly and add mustard eyes.


And last but not least, we’re featuring MUMMY PIZZAS! This treat is perfect for kids and adults – who doesn’t love pizza, or even better, making your own?! Our favorite, kid-friendly recipe for these was found via Disney’s Family Fun. Here’s the how to:


  • English Muffins
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Black Olives
  • Scallions
  • Red or Green Bell Pepper
  • Cheese Sticks or Slices


  1. Heat the oven to 350º F. For each mummy, spread a tablespoon of pizza sauce onto half of an English muffin (toast it first, if you like).
  2. Set olive slices in place for eyes and add round slices of green onion or bits of red or green pepper for pupils.
  3. Lay strips of cheese (we used a pulled-apart cheese stick) across the muffin for the mummy?s wrappings.
  4. Bake for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the muffin is toasty.

As most of you probably know, the summers in Florida are a time where the snow birds fly home, hurricanes come to play, and all living things {besides bugs!} try to hide because it’s so hot & humid.  All that and more means from late May until early September, wedding season goes into hibernation around here. We take advantage of that, filling our summers with traveling, visiting family around the nation, and studying up on trending wedding themes.

Love. Live. Eat. Travel. 

However, with October here & peak season approaching, the Better Half Girls are BACK & jumping into the full swing of things, up & ready for wedding season!

With that, we are thrilled to be back, welcoming our readers & fall {our favorite season!} with open arms.
